Educator’s Homestead
We moved away from our small “homestead”, but six years later found ourselves, through a series of events beyond our control, back on our property. But this time, things are different. We appreciate what we have, so much more now, then we did before.
We adopted some horses that were rescued from a slaughter pen, adopted several cats to reduce the rat population in our shop, and adopted two more dogs, that were also on their way to the animal control shelters. We have increased our chicken population from 0-60 in less than a year, and 18 ducks that are more demanding than 2 year olds.
I found that my daily life on the homestead, was seeping into my classroom, as my students wanted to experience first hand proof of my daily story adventures. I began bringing eggs to incubate, animal husbandry first hand experiences and they not only learned about the chickens and ducks, they learned compassion and gentleness.
I have so much to give! My passion is teaching, and after 25+ years, I have accumulated so many ideas, lessons, worksheets, activities that I wanted to put them out there so others can value them as I do.
My YouTube Channel Educator’s Homestead has several videos of activities to do with students like making 3-D snowflakes, or making a worm bin.
My TeachersPayTeachers Educator’s Homestead store have more activities that may help you deliver quality instruction.
One of my achievements was becoming a National Geographic Certified Teacher. Here is a video of my Capstone Project, that I do every year with my students.
